Cooking on a Budget

23 October 2009
/ 11:00AM - 3:00PM.
@ Asda Carpark, Hulme
Free

Cooking on a Budget demonstrations will form part of a larger Beating the Credit Crunch event that is to be held on 23rd October 2009 in Asda carpark in Hulme. This forms part of a series of activities being designed to promote financial inclusion and particularly to help residents cope with living on a low income. This includes helping them develop life skills that allow them to make the best of their resources and providing tips on how to live more cheaply.

The cooking demonstrations will feature dishes that can be produced easily and cheaply and that children can be encouraged to help with and therefore learn from. Stir frying will feature prominently as it is an easy, quick and healthy method of cooking that also uses less fuel.

During the demos tips will be given on how to shop smartly to avoid waste and take advantage of deals and reductions. We hope that people will not only learn some cooking skills but will feel inspired to have a go at cooking fresh food and avoid resorting to ready made meals and take aways which are less healthy, much more expensive and actually save very little time.

We also hope to encourage people to involve their children in cooking activities which can bring families closer together and can be an opportunity to pass on vital skills to younsters that will be usefull to them when they wish to live independently.
